Is a cantilevered system as strong as one with posts?
Yes, often even stronger. While it appears to "float," the safety of a cantilevered system comes from precision engineering. Instead of relying on vertical pillars, the Vision system uses the structural integrity of the glass itself, clamped into a heavy-duty internal track. This design is specifically calculated to handle high wind loads and weight pressures, ensuring a rock-solid platform that doesn't compromise on its elegant, airy appearance.
Do I need a handrail or a top rail?
Whilst having a top rail can add additional support and strength to the glass structure our system can be designed without a rail if we use a specific type of Premium SentryGlas interlayer, which is stiff enough to remain upright in the unlikely event that both panes of glass break.
What is "Heat Soaking" and do I need it?
Heat soaking is an optional safety test where the glass is put through a thermal cycle to fast-track the crystallization of impurities . It forces any potentially unstable panels to break in the factory rather than on your property, virtually eliminating the risk of "spontaneous breakage" after installation.
What if my building is over 18m?
Current building regulations (specifically Approved Document B) introduce stricter requirements for external wall attachments on high-rise buildings over 18m. This often involves specific rules regarding the combustibility of materials and the "shatter-proof" performance of the glass.
