The construction of the Elan Semi-Structural Glass Balcony system is defined by a precision-engineered approach that prioritises structural integrity and rapid on-site assembly. The process begins with the fabrication of components from high-strength 6063 T4 & T6 aluminium alloy, which are machined to accommodate a modular, “zero hot works” installation. The system can be fully installed without the need for hot works permits, significantly reducing fire risk and site downtime.
For structural integration, the Elan Semi-Structural Glass Balcony is seated within a subtle floor channel fixed directly to the balcony structure, with 50mm stanchions secured through either base grout or grout-fixed methods. This ensures the system can comfortably meet horizontal imposed loads ranging from 0.36kN/m to 1.5kN/m.
The 10mm toughened safety glass panels are then securely encapsulated at both the top and bottom by the oval toprail and floor channel, while in-line stem connectors maintain a perfectly flush alignment between the glass and the handrail.
To finish the process, every aluminium component can be treated with a durable Polyester powder coating, ensuring that the entire assembly is protected against the elements and meets the required A2-s1, d0 fire safety classification immediately upon completion.
